Job Title: Senior Youth Worker

Pay: £18 per hour

Hours: Part-time: 13 hours per week – for 21 weeks in the first instance

The person appointed will be self-employed

Reporting To: Chair, Bollington Youth Group Community Interest Company

Summary of Position:

This is an exciting opportunity to help establish, develop and promote a sustainable community-based facility providing services, activities and pastoral care for the youth of Bollington.

You will be at the forefront of establishing and managing our embryonic Youth Group in the heart of Bollington, which will be dedicated to the young people of our community.  Bollington Youth Group has a bold ambition to provide young people a high-quality, safe and nurturing environment to broaden their experience and interests, explore their talents and build their confidence to enable them to be the very best versions of themselves that they can be.

Our vision is to establish an essential community-service that will become an enduring legacy that engages, inspires and develops each new generation of Bollingtonians.

We are looking for an appropriately experienced and qualified Youth Group Worker who  has the charisma, drive and desire to make a difference within the community that we serve.

Outline of Responsibilities:

As our Senior Youth Worker, you will:

  • Plan, deliver, supervise and evaluate youth work programmes to include the creation of a safe and welcoming environment in which young people can meet, relax and develop social and other skills.
  • Promote the active involvement, personal and social development of young people to ensure the delivery of high-quality youth work.
  • Supervise Youth Support Workers (when appointed) and volunteers, ensuring effective youth work is delivered within agreed policy and quality standards.
  • Plan work in accordance with health and safety requirements to enable the safe delivery of services to young people.
  • Complete and collect youth work recordings and management information to ensure the accurate collection of data.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with young people which allow the delivery of effective youth work and ensures the young person’s wellbeing.
  • Act as advocate of young people ensuring that young people’s views are always given consideration and acted upon wherever possible.
  • Work with young people using the service and referring them on to other support services where necessary

You will be great for this role if you have:

  • A JNC National Youth Work Qualification or equivalent, a NVQ Level 2 Youth Work or above, or equivalent and experience of Youth Work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and experience of working with other partners.
  • Experience of managing a small team of colleagues and a proven ability of working in groups and on a one-to-one basis.
  • Experience and knowledge of working within Safeguarding frameworks.
  • Excellent understanding of current Youth Work issues and a proactive, participative and enthusiastic approach to working with young people.
  • Experience of assisting with mediation, safeguarding, managing behaviour, liaising with parents and carers and supporting the wider group of stakeholders.
  • An ability to manage and develop multi-agency projects.
  • A self-motivated, highly-organised and conscientious approach with a ‘can do attitude’ and the ability to work unsupervised whist also being supportive to other colleagues and team members.
  • A passion to make a difference in our local community and to the lives of the youth that are so rewarding of our service.
  • IT proficiency with a good knowledge of social media used by young people and of Microsoft Office applications
  • A driving licence and have access to your own vehicle for travel and are willing and able to travel to various services and locations for visits, events and fundraising activities.
  • Further training will be provided as appropriate

Location

This role is homebased, but you will be expected to undertake some travel, visiting key stakeholders and sponsors and partner organisations. You will also be expected to attend regular meetings with Bollington Youth Group Committee.

Travel costs incurred when on duty will be reimbursed.

  • anyone with experience in helping with youth activities
  • parents or others without experience willing to volunteer to assist at youth club activities on an occasional basis (training will be available)
  • anyone with experience of running the activities listed by young people in our survey such as cookery courses, games events, martial arts, music lessons, dance, tennis and other sports, Lego, board games etc.
  • sponsors and donors to contribute to our fund-raising activities
  • anyone with thoughts on engaging effectively with young people.
